Reasons to take a winter wellness break in Fiordland

In the middle of winter, it’s pretty easy to start feeling a little under the weather – we tend to hibernate and stay inside more, often swapping the gym for the couch with a glass of pinot! Winter is the perfect time of year to book a winter wellness break in Fiordland with a focus on health, outdoor activities and a change of scenery. Here are four reasons to take a wellness break at Whakatā in Fiordland during the cooler months.

Explore Te Anau and beyond – without the crowds

See? No crowds!

Our little backyard can get pretty busy come summer. Winter lends itself to a more authentic Fiordland experience with fewer people around. Blow the cobwebs out with a day walk on the Kepler Track, or take a day trip to beautiful Milford Sound and for a boat cruise. Whatever you choose to do while here, during June, July and August you’re likely to be able to chat with the locals and enjoy a more down to earth experience.

Take the time to re-set with a private yoga or mindfulness session

Spend a little time in the Whakatā chalet to release tension through gentle yoga, or to learn about mindfulness and how it can combat the stress of your day-to-day. One of the benefits of having a private teacher is feeling comfortable to ask any questions you like – helping you to learn more and better understand how to apply these tools for calm and focus to life once you’re back at home.

Soak in an outdoor hot tub under a starry Fiordland sky

A night time soak in the hot tub is magical

We reckon it’s the best way to warm up! Use jets to relax weary muscles, and enjoy a little time to reconnect with a partner or friend. We often find the best conversations happen in the spa pool – when you’re feeling relaxed and inspired. A glass or two of wine is optional.

Indulge in private, in-room massage with a qualified therapist

Mid-winter massages are a real treat.

When you’re spending day after day in winter at your desk, a deep-tissue (or reiki) massage is the way to go to really unwind. Tie it in to your wellness break in Fiordland – I’m passionate about the ongoing benefits of massage, and I’ve got a diploma in therapeutic massage so you know you’re in good hands!

We’d love to host you at Whakatā in Fiordland this winter. Our beautiful chalet has all the comforts of home and is well insulated, and our on-site massage, yoga or mindfulness options allow you to weave in as many wellness activities as you would like. We’ve got some fantastic winter packages on offer as well.
